
Archaeology in BC almost exclusively deals with Indigenous belongings and history, but the majority of archaeologists doing the work are not Indigenous.
Access to an archaeology career path faces educational barriers. Through this grant we want to recognize and acknowledge Indigenous experience and financially assist an archaeological/cultural heritage technician/heritage steward who is not in school but wishes to take a course(s) and pursue their interest in archaeology.
Applicants must self-identify as an Indigenous person in BC.
Applicants should be working in or have worked in the archaeological or heritage sector.
Applicants must be intending to pursue studies, research, activities, conferences, and/or fieldwork that focuses on an aspect of archaeology and/or Indigenous cultural heritage.
This grant has no age limit. Eligible applicants of all ages are invited to apply.

This award financially assists an undergraduate student in BC who has shown promise in the field of archaeology. The purpose of this award is to provide support and encouragement to a student who maintains a good academic standing and demonstrates an appreciation for the current ethics, practice and concerns associated with the Archaeology profession in British Columbia.
Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student postsecondary study in archaeology in BC. (three or more courses in an academic term).
The award is limited to students who are enrolled in:
• An archaeology program, OR an anthropology program with an archaeology focus, OR a First Nations studies program with an archaeology focus
The applicant must demonstrate:
• Full time enrollment in four terms within the previous two years
• Sensitivity to the complexities of archaeology in BC
The committee will consider such criteria as the student’s:
• Extra-curricular activities
• Volunteer work
• Personal research
• Academic standing (GPA)
• References

This award promotes Communities' self-determined language revitalization goals. Intended to celebrate the efforts and successes of Indigenous contributors in maintaining, preserving and restoring their languages, this grant will be awarded to an individual or group in BC who has contributed to keeping their language alive in any number of capacities, including documentation of language, improving linguistic integrity through the analysis of grammar and phonology, teaching languages within Communities. The use of the funds is at the discretion of the organization. Examples may include hardware (computers, voice recorders, writing materials, books, etc.) or Software (development, or purchase of, software to aid in language revitalization).
Applicants must self-identify as an Indigenous person in BC.
Applicants must already have established, or be in the process of establishing, a language program within associated communities in British Columbia.

• Successes of the individuals involved, as well as the organization itself

This award advances a new work related to heritage by an established or emerging Indigenous writer, orator, or maker in BC. This award will support an established or emerging Indigenous writer, orator, or maker to create a video, e-book, blog post, book, article, spoken word, or other expression related to their own perspective of heritage in BC.
Applicants must self-identify as an Indigenous person in BC.
Applicants must commit to completing the creative work by March 30th of following year.
1. A letter, maximum of four pages, outlining:
• The applicant’s eligibility
• Proposed work, driving principles, method
• Commitment to complete the creative work by March 30th of the year following award acceptance
2. Proposal for their original creative work, which may be for creation of a video, e-book, blog post, book, article, spoken word, or other expression chosen by the applicant
• Applicants must submit their application no later than October 15th.
• Applicants and winner retain intellectual property rights to their proposed and completed works outlined in their application
• Kleanza will request permission to promote the winner’s work on the Kleanza website and social media
• An award committee comprised of Indigenous members will judge the received proposals
• Award is payable in 2 instalments of $500: November of grant year / March of following year

Indigenous environmental guardianship is a powerful model of conservation that recognizes the deep connections Indigenous people have with land, language and culture. It offers a pathway to protecting the environment while honoring Indigenous rights and knowledge. This award goes to an Indigenous individual in BC who is committed to community-led work – such as monitoring, protection of sites, ecosystem awareness, educating community and visitors – that relates to the care for and management of traditional territories, combining traditional knowledge with modern stewardship practices.
Applicants must self-identify as an Indigenous person in BC.

Indigenous repatriation leadership is about empowering Indigenous communities to reclaim their cultural heritage, exercise their self-determination, and heal from the impacts of colonialism. This involves Indigenous governance and sovereignty in decision-making, cultural protocols, and respecting the unique needs and aspirations of each community. This award goes to an Indigenous individual in BC who, through community-led processes, prioritizes the return of ancestral remains and cultural belongings along with associated knowledge, to their rightful Indigenous communities. Aspects include respecting governance structures and decision-making processes; being guided by cultural protocols; open communication and collaboration; addressing historical injustices; and long-term care and stewardship of repatriated belongings for future generations.
